"Be persistent and persevere. Rarely does success occur with little effort"
Assistant Greenhouse Manager
I am the Assistant Greenhouse Manager of Haplotech Inc. My job is to maintain and care for the crop plants (wheat, barley and canola) that are brought to maturity in the greenhouse. My job includes many aspects from managing and communication to transplanting, pest management and harvest/ threshing with the goal of seed being sent to clients. What excites me most about my job is that it is the final stage that the plants go through. My role is crucial to ensure the plants stay healthy and make it to maturity so that the client gets their product!
My workplace is quite diverse which is beneficial to the company as a whole. Whether the diversity comes from being from different countries, different genders, past experiences etc. we are all able to communicate and be flexible with one another and this creates great collaboration and positively accelerates us towards our collective goals as a company. I think in order to support greater diversity and create more inclusive practices in my workplace and in the Agriculture field communication and patience are key. Being in open communication allows diversity to flourish. Diversity also requires patience which in turn helps to open up communication which creates and supports greater diversity and more inclusive practices.
The advice that I would give to young women interested in a career in my field would be to be persistent and persevere. Rarely does success occur with little effort.
My interests outside of work include: gardening/ house plants, spending time with family and friends ( dog and cat included!) , photography, good food and sports.
I am hoping to learn and get new insight about how other parts of the Agricultural field work,(industry, private, students in Agriculture). I am also hoping to solidify some of my teaching skills from communicating with my mentee.
