"I would say to never give up"

Farm hand

Rocky Acres Dairy

What is your job and what most excites you about what you do?

I assist in day to day farm business including mixing feed, feeding cows, handling cattle, milking and field work.

How diverse is your workplace, or your field of work as a whole? What do you think should be done to support greater diversity and create more inclusive practices in your workplace and in the Agriculture field?

At Rocky Acres Dairy, they grow a lot of their own feed from hay to silage to grain. They also run a purebredcharolais herd along with the 70 cow tie stall milking barn. I feel like they are diverse as they can be for a farm of their size.

What advice would you give to young women interested in a career in your field?

I would say to never give up, work hard for what you want and be reliable and honest to your employers. working in agriculture, especially on the farming side for women is tough because it is mostly man driven. If you show you are a hard worker you can do as much as you’d like in your field

What are some of your interests outside of work?

I enjoy anything outdoors, from mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, camping, hobby farming, animals, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. I love winter!. I also enjoy crafting, leatherwork, art, and photography.

What are you most hoping you will learn from your mentee? What learning goals do you have for this experience?

I am looking forward to networking and learning more about the agriculture field, possibly new career choices for myself, even as I have been out of the workforce for a little while with having kids. I am looking forward to learning what young women in agriculture are looking for and what their career paths will bring.
