Dr. Annemieke Farenhorst is a professor in the Department of Soil Science, University of Manitoba and the NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for the Prairie Region. Her Chair program focuses on three key areas:
- Encourage girls to consider careers in science and engineering professions through outreach and public advocacy with an emphasis on helping Indigenous girls in the Prairies learn about university programs involving science and engineering research.
- Celebrate women role models in science and engineering professions and enable female students to access them through a Prairie-wide research scholarship program, as well as mentorship programs.
- Examine the workplace environment of academics in science and engineering, and collaborate with five research-intensive universities in the Prairies to deliver strategic mechanisms to support women academics, for example, by offering professional development opportunities.
